ABOUT COMPUTER NETWORK


WHAT IS NETWORK?

A network is a collection of computers and devices connected together via communications devices and transmission media.
Usually the connections between computers in a network are made using physical wires or cables.
However, some connections are wireless, using radio waves or infrared signals.


COMMUNICATION DEVICE AND TRANSMISSION MEDIAWHAT IS COMMUNICATION DEVICES?A communications device is any type of hardware capable of transmitting data,instructions and information between a sending device and receiving device.TYPES OF COMMUNICATION DEVICES.1. Dial-up modem  - can convert digital signals to analog signals and analog signals to digital signals.2.Digital modem(ISDN,DSLand Cable Modem) - sends and receives data and information3. Wireless modem - connect to the internet wirelessly from a notebook computer, a smart phone or other mobile device.4.Network card - a communications device that enables a computer or device that does not have built-in networking capability to access a network.5.Wireless access point - central communications device that allows computers  and devices to transfer data wirelessly.6.Router - communications device that connects multiple computers or other routers together and transmit data7.Switch - device similar to a hub but more sophisticated.8.Hub - device that allows multiple connections to the network.

WHAT IS TRANSMISSION MEDIA?

Materials or substances capable of carrying one or more signals in a communication channel.

TYPES OF TRANSMISSION MEDIA.

1.Physical transmission media 
*Twisted-Pair Cable, Coaxial Cable , Fiber-Optic Cable

2.Wireless transmission media
*Infrared, Broadcast Radio, Cellular Radio, Microwave, communication satellite
